- Riccardo Orsolini scored in the second half and gave the visitors the defeat
- The result leaves Napoli as heavy favorites to lift the Serie A title this year
Inter Milan suffered a damaging 1-0 defeat in Bologna on Sunday that all but ended their slim hopes of winning the Serie A title.
On the same ground where their title hopes were dealt a fatal blow last season, Riccardo Orsolini’s goal doomed Inter to yet another defeat.
Simone Inzaghi’s team is second in the standings with 47 points from 24 games, 18 behind leaders Napoli, which beat Empoli 2-0 on Saturday. Bologna remained 13th with 42 points.
Bologna thought they had taken the lead through Musa Barrow in the 12th minute, only for the effort to be ruled out following a VAR review.
Inter had brief periods of possession in the first half but created few clear chances as Lautaro Martínez headed Alessandro Bastoni’s cross just wide of target and Henrikh Mkhitaryan fired twice over the crossbar.

Romelu Lukaku failed to score when his team suffered a shock defeat
Bologna continued to press after the break, and Andre Onana kept their side in the game with two crucial saves in quick succession, managing a handball for a Roberto Soriano shot before stifling Dominguez’s shot from the edge of the box.
Romelu Lukaku and substitute Edin Dzeko each fired on goal, but it was Bologna who opened the scoring in the 76th minute when Orsolini ran into a Jerdy Schouten pass and sent a shot into the net.
In April last year, Bologna recorded a 2-1 home win over Inter, giving the Nerazzurri’s rivals AC Milan the boost in the title race.
