Experience: Andrew Hauser will join the Australian central bank early next year
Bank of England official Andrew Hauser has been appointed deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA).
Hauser, who has worked at Threadneedle Street for more than 30 years and is executive director of markets, will join Australia’s central bank early next year.
The position has been vacant since Michele Bullock was promoted to governor of Australia’s central bank two months ago.
Hauser said he was “humbled and deeply honored to be asked to serve as deputy governor of the RBA.”
Hauser has a master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics and a degree in politics, philosophy and economics from the University of Oxford.
The appointment of an external candidate to the RBA’s senior leadership is the government’s latest move to revamp the decade-old institution after a review recommended major changes. Bullock said Hauser has “great experience and will bring a welcome outside perspective” to the RBA.
