Ohio police unleashed a K9 on a black man who had raised his hands from his vehicle earlier this month after a traffic chase, shocking body camera footage showed.

The incident occurred on July 4 after law enforcement officers engaged in the lengthy pursuit of a semi-trailer driven by 23-year-old Jadarrius Rose.

The vehicle was missing a mud flap and had not stopped for an inspection, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol report.

After the stop, Rose got out with his hands up and Officer Ryan Speakman of the Circleville Police Department released a police dog on Rose, even though a state police officer had told the local officer not to release K9.

“Don’t let go of the dog – with his hands up,” the state trooper could be heard yelling on the video.

Ohio police unleashed a K9 on a black man who stepped out of his vehicle with hands raised earlier this month after a traffic stop, officials said

The city’s public safety director, Douglas Debord, told local media that the city is currently reviewing the incident involving K-9 officer Ryan Speakman.

About 40 minutes of body camera footage was released to detail the July 4 incident.

Following the chase, the vehicle came to rest on a state highway about 40 miles south of Columbus after authorities deployed tire deflation devices known as “stop sticks” for the second time.

In a video captured by the highway patrol, Rose is seen standing in front of the vehicle with hands raised as law enforcement officers order him to the ground.

The footage showed the dog running towards Rose, on his knees, and the K appeared to bite and pull the driver.

Rose screamed loudly and could be heard saying, “Please, take it off.”

“Get the dog off him!” cried a soldier.

On the video, other officers could be heard requesting first aid and medical attention for Rose.

“While troopers attempted to gain compliance by giving verbal orders to the suspect, the Circleville Police Department deployed their dog, which resulted in the suspect being bitten by the dog,” the highway patrol said in a statement.

The dog has been released by Speakman, and Circleville officials have not said whether he has been placed on furlough WOSU.

Rose asked the officers as they released the dog and ordered the K9 to attack.

“Let the dog bite me,” Rose said. The officer told Rose to just listen to his orders.

Circleville police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The city’s public safety director, Douglas Debord, told local media that the city is currently reviewing the police K9 unit incident.

“This matter is still under investigation and the patrol cannot provide further details at this time,” said Highway Patrol Sgt. Ryan E. Purpura said in a statement.

The highway patrol said the driver was given first aid “immediately” and emergency medical services were contacted.

Rose was subsequently taken into custody, OSHP said, adding that the case is still under investigation.
