Police are working to identify a body pulled from a river in Melbourne’s CBD overnight.

Emergency services were called to Southbank Boulevard, in Melbourne’s Southbank entertainment district, at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.

It is clear that the public raised the alarm after seeing the body floating in the Yarra River.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said investigators were working to identify the person.

“The police will prepare a report for the coroner,” she said.

“The exact circumstances and cause of death have yet to be determined.”
