A body of a missing two-year-old boy was found in the mouth of an alligator after his mother was found stabbed to death in her apartment.

Taylen Mosley, of St. Petersburg, Florida, was reported missing Thursday after his mother Pashun Jeffery, 20, was found dead in her Lincoln Shores apartment from stab wounds.

On Friday night, Taylen was found dead in the mouth of an alligator in Dell Holmes Park – about 10 miles from his mother’s home. Officers confirmed it was the little boy after they killed the animal. A coroner determines his cause of death.

“We didn’t want to find him this way, but at least we can end that family now,” police chief Anthony Holloway said. “We’re sorry it had to end like this.”

Taylen’s father Thomas Mosley, 21, has been charged with two counts of first degree murder.

Relatives saw the mother and son around 5:30pm on Wednesday and requested a welfare check the next day after being unable to contact her.  An associate found her dead and the crime scene was described as 'very violent'

Police announced he was a “person of interest” after locating him in hopes of finding Taylen, who was not in custody at the time.

Thomas had checked himself into the hospital and, according to police, was covered in cuts to his arms and hands NBC news. He will remain in hospital from Friday, the police chief said.

Thomas did not speak to detectives. Holloway said, “The father isn’t talking to us.”

Neighbors said they heard a loud commotion near the apartment around 8:30 p.m. that night, but police were not called. Shortly after the commotion in the apartment, Thomas showed up at his mother’s house covered in cuts.

The next morning, Pashun’s mother called the apartment manager for a welfare check after her daughter missed their daily FaceTime call and an employee found her dead. Holloway described the crime scene as “very violent.”

The apartment door was locked when the employee arrived.

According to Pashun, who worked at CVS, and Taylen had recently moved into the apartment WGXA.
