Body of man in his 30s is found inside car submerged in Merriwa River – and it’s unclear how long wreckage had been there
A man's body has been found in a car submerged under a river in the NSW Hunter Region.
Emergency services were called to the Merriwa River, along the Golden Highway, at around 6am on Wednesday after reports a car had submerged in the water.
Police established a crime scene and officers investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident.

After an investigation by police divers, the body of a man was found in the car.
He has yet to be formally identified, although he is believed to be in his 30s.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
