Body language expert breaks down hidden clues in Kamala and Biden’s post-election speeches
Joe Biden made one last effort to look ‘strong and fit enough to lead’ after Kamala Harris put on a ‘tearful, emotional display’ as top Democrats conceded defeat in the 2024 election, a body language expert says .
The president, 81, and the vice president, 60, gave starkly different speeches to acknowledge Donald Trump’s resounding victory, and the contrast went far deeper than their messages.
Judi James, a renowned body language expert, told DailyMail.com that Biden’s mannerisms from the White House on Thursday morning “suggested a mature, calm authority.”
Many observers also noted Biden’s grin during the historic speech, which James said exemplified a “relaxed and optimistic response” as a “defiant gesture from the man who clearly still wants to prove his fitness for office.” ‘
But Kamala Harris, in contrast, had a “drawn facial expression” as she watched the music, and despite putting a positive rhetorical spin on her loss, “the way her voice cracked as she spoke suggested tearful emotional displays,” James said. .

Kamala Harris’ concession speech the day before Biden’s contrasted an attempt to “cheer up” her audience despite having a “drawn facial expression” the entire time.
Harris avoided contradicting Donald Trump’s victory speech on election night and waited until Wednesday to make her concession.
Despite the crushing loss, James said Harris’ energetic body language showed an attempt to “cheer up her audience,” but her “drawn facial expression” betrayed her true feelings.
Harris’ speech also left a lot to be desired, as James said it consisted mainly of “screaming clichés” and “word salad with emphatic gestures to give it authority and gravitas.”
By contrast, Biden’s body language during his speech about Trump’s victory was much more confident, controlled and grandfatherly, James said in her analysis.
“His approach to childbirth was gentle, fatherly and wise,” she said. “Biden’s jogging entrance was a visual commentary on what he might still see as his ability to be strong and fit enough to lead.
‘It was a gesture of defiance.’

Harris’s speech also left a lot to be desired, as James said it consisted mainly of “screaming clichés” and “word salad with emphatic gestures to give it authority and gravitas.”
‘Where Kamala Harris seemed to want to excite her audience, grinning and shouting ‘Good afternoon!’ In a loop, Biden took on the more mature role, making calming gestures by raising his hands to stop the applause and take control of the moment,” James continued.
“His eyes squinted and he raised his hands as he focused on words like ‘Peaceful,’ ‘Orderly,’ and ‘Acceptance,’ in contrast to Harris’ repeated use of the word ‘Fight.’
While some said Biden’s big smile during his speech may have shown a quiet satisfaction at Harris’ loss because of the way he was pushed aside, James said his body language told a different story.
‘HThe overall tone was one of calm acceptance rather than showing any resentment or bitterness,” she told DailyMail.com.
“It was his little jogging steps upon his arrival that looked choreographed to indicate, ‘I’ve still got it.’ It would have been a subtle hint rather than a statement that things would have been different if he had been in office.
‘After being removed from office it would have been easy for him to feel a sense of vindication in Harris’ defeat, but there was no shouting or aside here to imply that, just a relaxed and optimistic response on the electoral defeat and some kind words for Kamala.’
