A burning body has been found on a street in suburban Brisbane in a gruesome case of self-harm.
Police were called to Rome Street in Yeronga, south of the city, at around 6:30 a.m. following reports that a body had been found.
It is understood that the body was on fire at the time.
A crime scene has been established and a police investigation is underway.
Regional Service Officer Inspector Laurie Shevlin said the body was found near a river on an empty block and could be seen by passersby.
Police were called to Roma Street in Yeronga (pictured), south of the city, around 6:30 a.m.
“Police were called to a rather gruesome scene where an unidentified person who appeared to be dead was found by the riverside in an empty block,” Inspector Shevlin told The Courier Mail.
“It’s obviously a pretty tragic time for families.
“First responders are always dealing with traumatic situations, some worse than others.”
