A body has been found on a property and a major police operation is underway after gunshots were fired at cars traveling along a major highway.
The incident is said to have occurred on the Pacific Highway on the NSW north coast after several shots were fired in the early hours of Thursday morning.
NSW Police are on the hunt for a dark-coloured Mercedes-Benz spotted in the main strip.
NSW Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Scott Tanner told radio station 2GB the Mercedes was last seen at Ferbank Creek, near Port Macquarie on the NSW north coast.
Police said a welfare check found a body at a home on Fernbank Creek Road, near Pacific Highway.
