A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a 12-year-old girl was found in Paris – tied up in a suitcase, covered with cuts in her throat and mysterious numbers placed on her with a ‘device’.
The victim was discovered with her feet and wrists tied, taped around her face and had several visible cuts to her throat.
She also had unexplained marks on her body.
An autopsy on Saturday concluded that she had died of asphyxiation (lack of oxygen).
The numbers ‘1’ and ‘0’ were found on the body of the child, according to French broadcaster BFMTV.
The girl was found outside an apartment building in the 19th arrondissement of the French capital after her mother reported her missing when she failed to return home from school.
A police source said the figures were not written on or cut into the girl, but had been “placed” on her by a “device”.
A mystery remains, as agents don’t yet know what the numbers mean.
The girl was found outside an apartment building in the 19th arrondissement of the French capital after her mother reported her missing when she failed to return home from school.
Police have launched a murder investigation and said they discovered traces of kidnapping in the basement of the family home.
Detectives viewed CCTV footage showing a woman carrying a suitcase outside the building.
The same suitcase, police believe, was later found a few blocks away in Rue d’Hautpoul containing the girl’s body.
The schoolgirl’s face was covered in tape, her feet and fists were bound, and she was reported to have suffered several cuts to her throat.
According to BFMTV, four people have been detained, although the reason for their arrest is unclear.
Among them is the man who contacted the police after discovering the suitcase.
