Body found under apartment building is female as neighbors reveal ‘disturbing’ comments they heard a resident say

  • Police remain at the compound where partially buried human remains were found.
  • Cleaners unearthed a grim discovery in an enclosed area behind the besser block wall
  • It remains ‘tightly wrapped’ covered with clothing and bedding to hide the odor.
  • Detectives said the investigation would likely be complex and lengthy.
  • On Friday, forensic examinations revealed that the body is that of a woman.

A body found partially buried in the basement parking lot of a Brisbane apartment building is female, detectives have revealed.

The grim discovery was made by cleaners in the suburb of Alderley at around 10:45am on Wednesday in a locked section behind a wall of Besser blocks.

“Forensic examinations … have confirmed that the deceased is a female,” Queensland police said on Friday.

A neighbor in the apartment building said he remembered a heated argument that police were investigating.

Resident Allan Batzloff said Thursday that he remembered an “argument on the heat of the moment” between two men at the compound months earlier.

“I heard some things … someone threatening someone a few months ago,” Batzloff told ABC News.

Homicide detectives remain at the scene where a body was found partially buried beneath a unit complex in north Brisbane.

The complex’s parking lot remained cordoned off Thursday hours after the gruesome discovery of ‘hermetically wrapped’ human remains

“I don’t know what personal relationship it was, but one guy said, ‘I’m going to get back at you, I’m going to get you,’ that kind of thing.”

Batzloff said the whole incident was “a bit disturbing.”

‘I didn’t think anything of that at the time until yesterday. Now the police are asking me to clarify a little more about what happened.’

Another resident, Scott Morton, said the building’s occupants were shocked by the discovery.

The building’s regular cleaner, Amanda Early, said she hadn’t heard anything suspicious but was “devastated” that contract cleaners found the body while doing a more extensive cleanup of the unused area.

They are reportedly upset and traumatized by the shocking discovery.

Queensland Police said the autopsy would continue on Friday when the crime scene examination is complete.

Forensic samples taken from the scene have already been sent for urgent testing, including fingerprint analysis of various located items.

Investigators are also continuing to review various missing person reports.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said it was “quite worrying” that the body had gone unnoticed for “a few months”.

“The large number of people, residents of this block of units, are unaware of that fact,” he said.

Residents of the unit block did not report any odors or other suspicions and the body was “very well wrapped” and covered with clothing and bedding, he said.

Officers are working to identify the person and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Detectives are seeking information from previous tenants and an investigation center for Operation Pepperina Uniform has been set up at the Hendra Police Station.

“Whoever put the person there has tried to hide the body without success,” he said.

‘(They) have been very careful to wrap the body in a certain way and preserve it. They have also transported it to an area that is not easily accessible.

“Whether it was their intention to leave it there, or to come get it at a later time and they just haven’t, that’s part of what we’ll be looking at.”

Superintendent Massingham said it would take time for police to complete their investigation.

“These types of homicide investigations can be complex and lengthy,” he said.

“We currently have dozens of missing person reports that we are reviewing that have already started at Hendra station.”

The police are also interviewing people in the complex and want to speak to former residents as well.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
