On Friday, the Sheriff’s Department confirmed that it is investigating the incident, but did not immediately say why the car was pulled over and declined to identify the driver because of the ongoing investigation.

“While the department is not making any statements related to the ongoing investigations, Sheriff (Robert) Luna has made it clear that he expects department personnel to treat all members of the public with dignity and respect, and that personnel who do not meet our training standards will be held accountable,’ the statement said.

The driver was handcuffed and put in a patrol car, but not taken into custody. Ultimately, he was cited for lack of a badge and released.
