Sesame Street icon Bob McGrath, who started on the show in 1967 and continued for 47 seasons, dies at 90
Bob McGrath, who was one of the original stars of Sesame Street, has passed away at the age of 91.
McGrath appeared in the pilot in 1969 and went on to star for another 47 seasons.
The family shared the news of the actor’s death on their official Facebook page.
‘Our father, Bob McGrath, passed away today. He died peacefully in his house, surrounded by his family.
McGrath finally stopped performing on Sesame Street with his latest episode titled Have a Ball.
McGrath directed children’s lessons through his puppets and also wrote original themes for the production, including People in Your Neighborhood, Sing a Song, If You’re Happy And You Know It, and the theme song for Sesame Street.

Although McGrath finally walked away from appearing in front of the Sesame Street lens in 2017, he continued to work behind the scenes with Sesame Workshop.
He would still appear at public events related to the television franchise serving as an advocate for the show.
He’s also starred in numerous Sesame Street productions over the years, including independent films, songs, holiday specials, video games, and more.
He was one of the longest serving adult human cast members on the series and is survived by his wife, Ann, and their three children, as well as five grandchildren.
