Bluey’s banned episode is no longer banned
If you’ve never seen the episode of Bluish, the beloved Australian children’s cartoon that Disney refuses to show to American audiences, now’s your chance. “Papa Baby” has been fully uploaded to the official Bluish Youtube Channel.
In the episode, Bluey and Bingo, the unstoppable Blue Heeler pups, play a game with their father Bandit in which he pretends to be pregnant with Bingo and gives birth to her in a pool in their backyard. Like all episodes of Bluishit is very funny and lovingly based on the realities of family life.
Although the episode has been shown on TV in Bluey’s native Australia, Britain and elsewhere, Disney, which owns the US TV rights, has and the worldwide streaming rights to the show – “Dad Baby” never aired or uploaded to the Disney Plus streaming service.
Disney has not yet commented on its decision to censor “Dad Baby.” It’s probably due to sensitivity about one of two things: a portrayal of the reality of childbirth that, in some conservative circles, might be considered too fair for preschoolers – it’s not exactly graphic, but there’s no doubt where Bingo is pushed away – or the gender-bending image of a man (well, male dog) giving birth.
It seems BluishThe episode’s rights holders, a small Australian animation company called Ludo Studio, are fed up with the suppression of the episode and have decided to make it free to watch on YouTube. It remains unavailable on Disney Plus.
Bluish recently completed its third season with the special episode “The Sign.” Although the creators have said that Bluey and her family will return, the future of the show remains uncertain and a fourth season has yet to be confirmed.
