Bluey producer gives update on beloved Australian cartoon’s future following rumours the show is ending
Bluey fans have recently taken to social media to speculate about the future of the globally beloved ABC animated series.
The final episode of season three, which airs Sunday, will run a whopping 28 minutes — four times longer than regular episodes — and will “change the popular Heeler family forever.”
The release of the mega-episode sent thousands of fans into a frenzy, with many thinking it meant the cartoon would end forever.
And now a producer of the wildly popular Australian cartoon has revealed the fate of the show.
Executive producer Daley Pearson spoke to Sunrise on Friday morning, revealing: “Lately it’s only been a half-hour episode that we’ve been working on, but we’re going to make more Bluey.”

“It was a concentration on this half-hour episode. We’ll see where it goes. “I think when we’ve taken risks, that’s when it’s the most exciting and I think that’s when the audience enjoyed it the most,” he continued.
“So whatever it will be, it will be something that we’re not quite sure we can do. But we hope it can be done.’
The producer further revealed that it would be a “dream” to make the cartoon into a feature-length film.
He added that Sunday’s 28-minute special “The Sign” will be a test to see how audiences react to a longer episode.
The final episode of season three, airing Sunday, will run a whopping 28 minutes – four times longer than regular episodes – and will “change the popular Heeler family forever.”
Fears were first sparked when a storyline revealed the family’s 15- to 20-room Brisbane home was for sale for A$6 million.
However, Pearson revealed that the move plan was simply intended to show a different facet of childhood.
‘[Moving house is] always out of our hands. Kids will love that. Molly especially. It is the parents’ decision. So the world is changing without much of your involvement, and that says a lot about what this half-hour EP is about.”

The news will come as a relief to the many concerned fans of the iconic cartoon.
“There’s no way they’re going to end Bluey, right? Right??’ wrote one concerned social media user on X.
“Bruh, they can’t cancel BLUEY. My child is about to have a BLUEY 2nd birthday party next week. That’s what we do in this house…she’s going to be devastated and I can’t lie, we’re all watching it. #BlueyRules,” another commented.
Bluey’s special will air on Sunday, April 14, 2024 on ABC Kids.
