Bluey introduces same-sex couple in ‘The Sign’ season finale – but almost everyone missed it
Fans of Eagle-eyed Bluey have noticed that the beloved cartoon introduces an odd couple for the first time.
In the season three finale, titled “The Sign,” some viewers noticed a subtle hint that Bluey’s friend Pretzel has two moms.
A few minutes into the episode, Pretzel said, “When my guinea pig ran away, my moms said he might come back, but he didn’t.”
The quick reference to “mothers” in the plural went through the minds of most viewers, but not all.
Australian Bluey fan Margie was excited about the inclusion of an LGBTQIA+ couple in a TikTok videoand many agreed that it was the ‘one thing missing’ from the show.

Margie described it as a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ moment and said she too didn’t notice it at first.
‘When I first saw the episode, I missed it. It wasn’t until I went back, watched it with subtitles and actually listened that I noticed we had our first gay couple,” she said.
Margie also pointed out that the subtitles show the plural “mothers” and not the word “mother,” further confirming that Pretzel has same-sex parents.
‘I love it, I think it was a really fun and organic way to do it. It’s really one of those subtle things that I think a lot of people will miss. But overall I thought they handled it very well,” she added.

It comes as Bluey fans were left in panic after being urged to rewatch five core episodes of the children’s cartoon before the show’s ‘super-big finale’ on April 14.
Although you don’t see the couple in the episode, the recording was praised by hundreds of others and spread like wildfire on social media.
“This makes me so happy,” one commented, while another said: “Finally! It’s the only thing Bluey was missing.’
‘I noticed this, but I had to point it out to my wife. I’m glad it finally happened,” a third added.
“I loved how they threw that in so casually and organically,” another added.
One mother wrote: ‘This will mean the world to my son.’
