A man has died in a freak climbing accident after being crushed by a falling rock in the Blue Mountains region of NSW.

The climber in his 30s was hit by the 12-inch rock on Sunday during a climb known as ‘Sweet Dreams’ in the mountain range west of Sydney.

The man went into cardiac arrest and died on the spot.

A crime scene has been established with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
