The King Charles coronation concert has been hit hard after both Adele and Ed Sheeran declined invitations to participate.
The Mail on Sunday can reveal that the couple were asked to perform after the monarch discussed with organizers his hopes for them to appear.
But both Sheeran and Adele said they were busy and couldn’t play the Windsor Castle event on May 7, the day after the King’s coronation at Westminster Abbey.
A source involved in the project said: “The King has suggested a number of people he would like to star in and Adele and Ed were on that list. He was very interested in them being part of the concert.
“A team was put together for talent to sign up, so they reached out to both of them, but got responses saying they weren’t available, which was a huge disappointment.” They are titans of the entertainment industry and are quintessentially British, but also known around the world. It is a shame.’

Shape Of You star Sheeran, 32, is scheduled to appear at a show in Texas the day before the Coronation concert. While this would make it difficult for him to get to the Windsor show, experts say it would be possible to make the nine-hour journey on time by private plane.

Sheeran closed out the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee show last June with his hit song Perfect, which was chosen as a tribute to the then-monarch and her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Adele, 34, has nothing posted for May 7 or, indeed, after March 25, when her Las Vegas residency concerts wrap up. It is not yet known if Harry Styles will be part of the lineup, although it is understood that the King wants him to participate.
Meanwhile, Lionel Richie is close to agreeing, as are the Spice Girls, although organizers have yet to confirm if Victoria Beckham will appear.
She has vowed never to sing in public again after years of ridicule for her voice.
The concert will be screened by the BBC. Several thousand pairs of tickets will be made available to the public via a ticket.
