‘Blockbuster Release’ case walkthrough, hints and solution in Rise of the Golden Idol

“Blockbuster release” is the third case of Chapter 2 in Rise of the golden idol. It takes place right after ‘Behind Bars’.

As with all ours Rise of the golden idol case guides, our goal here is to provide a hint-based experience that guides you to the solution without automatically showing you how to solve it. We start with small hints for the puzzle, escalate to larger ones, and finally just spell out the answer if it still doesn’t click. We’ve separated our layered hints and answers with in-game art, but be wary of scrolling further than you intend.

Names of blockbuster releases

There are 11 names to discover in “Blockbuster Release.”

  • The projectionist vignette replaces the regular projectionist.
  • Various characters refer to themselves by their own names, or to others by their names.
  • Costume contest winners will have their full names displayed.

  • You can find the projectionist’s name by looking in the office and fuse box.
  • The man arguing with the woman has a piece of paper with their first name on it, and the woman has one with their last name.
  • The getaway driver for the alien has his name on a vanity table.
  • Consider solving the costumes before solving all the names, because knowing who is dressed up can help.

Blockbuster release equipment

The duffel bag contains a strange message about the tools a character needs to commit a crime. You must complete four objects.

  • These can all be solved with simple logical leaps, and don’t necessarily require much detective work. Try some solutions first based on what makes sense to you.

  • At the first mention, consider what the person in the car is carrying with the duffel bag.
  • For two of the entries, look into the back of the flaming car.
  • Think about what you need to bring to the movies.

Hide my identity – need one costume.

Get in and out of the drive-in; take enough with you money.

Get the staff out of the way with a distraction package wire cutters.

Blockbuster Release Costumes

For the costume puzzle you have to name the four heroes on the movie poster.

  • There are multiple characters dressed as each hero, and at least one of them says something about their character.

  • The woman in the car with all the popcorn reveals the names of the male and female leads.
  • The newest character in the film is the alien.
  • The man in the scorched costume is dressed as a robot companion.

The argument between Mike and Jenny is over a piece of paper in Mike’s pocket.

  • Watch to see which character everyone is worried about in the movie.
  • Look for the various props that characters brought to the premiere.

The first Event Puzzle has two paragraphs and 19 words to solve.

  • Consider who the person is driving the truck and what motivated him to crash.
  • Look at the projector room and see how important the technology is that they use in this theater.
  • The office scene can tell you who’s sneaking around and why.
  • Look closely at each Porbo to discover something strange.

  • The first paragraph discusses the owner of the theater and the name of the theater.
  • The first paragraph indicates which item is used to make this theater special.
  • Someone wants the theater’s technology and has sent a shady character to get it.
  • The first attempt failed, forcing the dark character to come up with a new solution.

The second event puzzle also has 19 words to solve.

  • Consider why the fire started in the complex and who started it.
  • What made the theater owner spill coffee on himself.
  • Why did the car accident happen.

  • The first paragraph relates exclusively to the origin of the car fire. It names two characters, but there are two groups involved.
  • Think about what might be causing the movie screen to change, and use that to complete the first half of the second paragraph.
  • Think about the last thing that happens in this scene, and use it to fill in the bottom half of the second paragraph.
