Blake Shelton slammed by fans over ’embarrassing’ New Year’s Eve performance

  • The 47-year-old singer was criticized on Twitter after the performance
  • Blake and fellow star Tracy Adkins, 61, sang at the NYE concert in Nashville
  • But fans were furious that it was pre-recorded when Blake was due to perform elsewhere

Blake Shelton has been criticized for an “embarrassing” performance on New Year's Eve after a pre-recorded recording of the singer was broadcast – despite fans being promised a live concert.

The 47-year-old country star was seen on stage with Trace Adkins, 61, during CBS's New Year's Eve Live: Nashville's Big Bash.

The icons took a step back in time and performed their 2011 hit, Hillbilly Bone, and while it was initially advertised as a live rendition, people tuning in were quick to point out that it was pre-recorded.

The performance appears to have been pre-recorded as the country singer – who is married to pop star Gwen Stefani – was double-booked and sang his biggest hits that same night at the WinStar Casino in Oklahoma.

The icons took a step back in time and performed their 2011 hit, Hillbilly Bone, and although it was initially advertised as a live rendition, people were outraged that it was pre-recorded.

Donning matching black shirts and jeans, the country stars gave fans of the past a breath of fresh air with the more than a decade-old song.

The duo also sang the hit Hell Right.

The star-studded performance was held in front of an audience, with the country stars showing off their close bond by hugging each other during one of the songs.

And while many fans were thrilled to see the singers perform together again after so many years, others were furious that it was pre-recorded.

Many fans even went so far as to label the entire performance as “an embarrassment to country music.”

Others jokingly wondered how Blake could be in two places at once.

One person said, “How's Blake Shelton doing “live” in Nashville for CBS Nashville New Year's Eve when he hits the WinStar stage in five minutes? He must have a fast tour bus.”

Someone else commented: 'Huge fan of Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins. However, their duet Hell Right is one of the dumbest songs I've ever heard.'

It appears as if the performance was pre-recorded, as the country singer double-booked himself

And it seemed like Blake was extra busy this holiday season because he couldn't ring in the new year with Gwen

Many fans even went so far as to label the entire performance as a “disgrace to country music.”

Another user added: '#CBSNashvilleNYE WTF is this? Thomas Rhett and Blake Shelton sound like absolute **. This is a disgrace to country music.”

In an interview with Access to Hollywoodthe pop singer revealed why she and her husband had to split this year.

Gwen explained that she planned to support her husband in Oklahoma, but work got in the way.

She said, “Well, it's funny because I was supposed to be at his show, and then Vegas called and wanted me to be in Vegas.

“Last year I did Vegas and I was like, 'Remind me never to do Vegas again.' [But] sometimes you don't want to be the host.

'So I thought, “Eh, I'm going to do it.” If you go to work, I'll go to work.

“So I'm just flying back and forth, it's going to be great. I'm really looking forward to it.'
