Blake Lively continues to film It Ends With Us in New Jersey
In the film based on Colleen Hoover’s 2016 bestseller, she plays Lily Bloom, a recent college graduate who moves to Boston to pursue her dream of opening a flower shop.
This comes the day after she went to a party at Lucalli Pizza restaurant in Brooklyn with her good friend Taylor Swift the night before
When the story begins, Lily has just returned from her father’s funeral, where she gave the eulogy.
She is sitting on the roof of a building when a man angrily starts kicking a chair. That man is neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid, who tells her he lost a child patient after his brother shot him.
The two start talking and flirting and find themselves attracted to each other when Ryle tells her he wants to sleep with her, but also reveals he only has one night stands. They part ways without exchanging information.
Six months later, Lily is working with her new friend Alyssa to open her flower shop when she falls and hurts her ankle. Alyssa calls her brother and it turns out it’s Ryle.
They pretend not to know each other, but there is still a passion burning between them. They promise to stay away from each other because they want different things.
As Lily recovers, she reads her diaries from her teenage years, which she wrote as letters to Ellen DeGeneres. The diaries tell the story of Lily and Atlas, a homeless boy who lives in an abandoned house behind hers.
They fall in love and Atlas reveals that he is moving to Boston to live with a relative. He gives Lily a magnet that says Better in Boston.
He promises to come back for Lily if he has his life together and they make love, but is discovered by her abusive father, who brutally beats Atlas with a baseball bat.
Back in the present, Ryle and Lily start dating. When she takes him out to dinner to meet her mother, she sees Atlas at the restaurant where they are eating. They have a brief conversation and Atlas reveals that he has a girlfriend.

Not long after, Ryle burns his hand on a frying pan he takes out of the oven without an overglove. When Lily laughs, he shoves her hard and she hits her head. It bleeds and she wonders if she is turning into her mother, who was beaten by her father.
Ryle and Lily go out to eat at Atlas’ restaurant with his sister and her husband and he notices that they are both injured and Atlas jumps to conclusions.
For a moment alone, he tells Lily to leave Ryle. When she refuses, he tells her she is just like her mother. Ryle discovers that Atlas is the boy from her past, becomes jealous and is kicked out of the restaurant.
Lily and Ryle have a period of peace after this event and go to Las Vegas to get married. Not long after, he discovers that Lily has Atlas’ phone number and pushes her down the stairs, seriously injuring him.
One evening, Ryle reads a newspaper article about Atlas, mentioning a woman special to him and revealing the name of his restaurant – Bibs – meaning Better in Boston.
Ryle is holding a magnet that Lily has that Atlas gave her when they were kids that says the same thing.
He has also read all her teenage diaries and tries to rape her head, punching her so hard that she passes out.
She calls Atlas to come get her, and he takes her to the hospital, where she discovers she is pregnant.
Lily is confused by her feelings for Atlas and the love mixed with anger she feels for Ryle. She slowly lets Ryle back into her life and tells him about her pregnancy, but also tells him that she can no longer have a relationship with him.

When the baby is born, they name her Emerson after Ryle’s late brother and Lily asks for a divorce, not wanting her daughter to grow up in the same kind of home as them.
Months later, Lily encounters Atlas. He says his life is good enough for Lily now and they hug.
Hoover previously revealed that It Ends With Us is “the hardest book I’ve ever written” because it is based on the relationship between her parents.
As of 2019, the book has sold more than 1 million copies worldwide and has been translated into more than 20 different languages.
