Black Panther: Wakanda Forever cast are as surprised as you are about a possible Namor spin-off
>
The cast of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is completely unaware of the rumors of a possible Namor spin-off project.
Alex Livinalli and Mabel Cadena spoke exclusively to TechRadar during the Marvel Phase 4 movie’s global tour, expressing their surprise at online rumors of a Namor-led movie or show.
The pair, who play Attuma and Namora – Namor’s closest confidants – in Black Panther 2, were certainly open to the prospect of starring in a potential Talokan-based production. Livinalli went so far as to jokingly say that TechRadar should call him if we hear anything definitive.
“What really?!” said Livinalli when TechRadar brought up the Namor spin-off speculation. “They don’t tell us anything, so if you know anything, let us know!”
“Oh wow,” Cadena added. “That would be really cool. I think we’re both very open to returning for that.”
One of the oldest Marvel (opens in new tab) characters created by the comic book giant, Namor will be the primary antagonist in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The ocean-dwelling mutant, played by Tenoch Huerta in the superhero movie, is more of an antihero than an outright villain, though he does occasionally team up with classic Marvel super-villains when it benefits his country or keeps his people safe. You can read more about him in our comprehensive Namor explanation.
Analysis: Will Marvel give the green light to a Namor spin-off project?
That’s hard to say, considering Marvel keeps these things very close to its chest. However, there are a few reasons to suggest we’ll see Marvel sign for a solo Namor movie or Disney Plus show.
Let’s discuss those rumors first. In January, Bleeding Cool (via Murphy’s Multiverse (opens in new tab)) teased that Wakanda Forever would serve as the launch pad for a Namor-led franchise. Okay, that’s not much to comment on, but Huerta and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige have opened up about the potential for a Namor movie or TV series in the months since that speculation originally surfaced online.
Speaking with Total Film (per the direct (opens in new tab)), Huerta said that “the mythology around Namor is huge. You can go crazy with all this cultural aspect and you can create a lot of things with Namor”. Meanwhile, Feige commented on a Namor cosplayer at the world premiere of Wakanda Forever, which you can watch below: “We’ll see [about a Namor movie]. It depends!”
So the prospect of a Namor spin-off project is becoming increasingly likely. The antihero is one of Marvel’s most complicated characters, whose loyalties vary wildly depending on the circumstances surrounding him and the Atlantis-like kingdom of Talokan. As Huerta says, there is so much source material to draw from and, given the complexity, character richness and thematic resonance surrounding Namor as an individual, he is an ideal candidate for a solo Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) outing.
There are plenty of slots available in Marvel and Disney’s upcoming movie slate that could also fit a Namor movie. According to a screenshot shared on reddit (opens in new tab)there are five unclaimed Marvel movie spots in Disney’s calendar — between July 2025 and November 2026 — that a Namor movie could occupy.
If Marvel chooses to make a Namor-led TV series instead, there’s room for it to appear on Disney Plus as part of Marvel Phase 5 or Marvel Phase 6. The former already looks pretty stacked, like Loki Season 2 and Secret Invasion are already moving into the next phase of the MCU. But it’s not that Marvel hasn’t restructured its release schedule before, and has recently returned a number of MCU movies due to production issues surrounding the Blade movie reboot. So there’s always a chance Marvel could move its TV magazine to house a Namor series, especially if the character proves to be as popular as many expect him to be when Wakanda Forever releases worldwide on November 11.
Our guess? A Namor TV show seems like the most likely route Marvel will take. A Namor Disney Plus series would allow viewers to explore Talokan in more detail than a movie could, while supporting characters like Attuma and Namora could also have fleshed out character arcs. Show us more about Talokan’s MCU history, delve into the details of Namor’s complex persona, and connect his project to another Black Panther 2 spin-off – Ironheart’s own Disney Plus show or the rumored Midnight Angels series – and we will definitely be down for another underwater adventure.
