Black Mirror is back! Netflix show returns

Black Mirror is back! Netflix show returns with FIVE mind-bending episodes, one meta twist, and an all-new star-studded cast that includes Salma Hayek, Michael Cera, and Aaron Paul

After a four-year absence, Black Mirror is back – and it’s bigger, bolder and even more self-referential than ever if the first look at the five new episodes is anything to go by.

The hugely popular anthology series, created by Charlie Brooker, will air on streaming platform Netflix from June 15, with an all-star cast led by Salma Hayek, Michael Cera, Rory Culkin and Aaron Paul.

And fans will be wondering what’s real and what’s not from the very beginning, with Netflix playing a central role – and a meta twist – in the opening episode Joan Is Awful.

Here’s to an average woman stunned to discover that the global streaming platform has launched a prestigious TV drama adaptation of her life – in which she’s played by Hollywood A-lister Hayek.

In the terrifying second installment Loch Henry, a young couple travel to a sleepy Scottish town to work on a genteel nature documentary – but they’re drawn to a juicy local story about shocking events from the past.

The dystopian show has captured the world’s attention for more than a decade now, with its twisted view of the future of technology.

And in April, fans went wild after Black Mirror made a surprising return to Twitter after four years of total silence with the tweet: “What have we missed?”

The show’s creator, Charlie Brooker, 52, responded to the post with a mocking facial emoji – and fans think it’s the biggest hint yet that series six could be released soon.

Netflix was one of the first to respond with the telling post: “Season five of the show consisted of just three episodes, even though each of the episodes was over an hour long.”

Season five featured a star-studded cast including Wrecking Ball singer Miley Cyrus, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie, That 70s Show actor Topher Grace and Candyman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Production came to a halt in 2020 after Charlie Brooker and his creative partner Annabel Jones left their House of Tomorrow production company.

House of Tomorrow’s parent company, Endemol Shine Group, still held the rights to Black Mirror and sold it to Banijay Group in the summer of 2020.
