A man has been found dead on a Spanish beach after performing a suspected ‘black magic’ ritual in which he sacrificed animals before collapsing.

The 65-year-old was found behind a rock at La Fosca beach, north of the Costa Brava resort of Palamos, near Girona, after beheading around six chickens.

His wife alerted emergency services shortly after 5am yesterday, saying she found him unconscious, surrounded by the decapitated carcasses of the birds.

Emergency services and police officers rushed to the scene, but were unable to resuscitate the man.

It is said that the dead man fell ill after rowing with his partner and two children. He was preparing for the satanic ritual, after which he went to the spot nearby where he was found after making the animal sacrifice.

When police and emergency services arrived on the scene, they found the man surrounded by chicken heads and his grieving wife and children.

Police are still awaiting the results of the autopsy, but are not yet treating the incident as a crime. According to police sources cited by Spanish news agency Cronica Global, the man’s body showed no signs of trauma.

They also confirmed that neither the man’s wife nor the daughters are facing charges of animal cruelty or public health issues because they “did not actively participate” in the actions the deceased took.

According to local reports, the man’s death was believed to be the result of a reaction to drugs he allegedly took as part of the black magic ceremony.

La Fosca beach is a wide sandy beach divided into two halves by a large black rock.

It is part of a residential and tourist area in a bay north of Palamos.

A pleasant promenade runs along the beach with beautiful summer houses on the boulevard, dating from the first half of the last century.

It was not yet clear this morning whether the dead man lived nearby or was on holiday.

The part of the beach where the chickens were sacrificed was probably cleaned before the first tourists arrived.
