Colin Gibb’s wife Sue Kelly revealed the Black Lace singer wanted everyone to wear ‘Agadoo T-shirts’ at his funeral – after his shock death was announced.

The Black Lace singer tragically died at the age of 70 on Sunday, just days after announcing his retirement with fans.

His ‘devastated’ wife Sue said she and Colin both spoke about their hopes and wishes for their funerals before he passed away unexpectedly.

Sue said Colin wanted his fans and friends to wear ‘s*** shirts’ or the iconic floral pineapple T-shirts from Black Lace’s hit Agadoo, and wanted people to donate to a cat charity.

Although the funeral date has yet to be announced, Sue revealed she will let fans know when his funeral will be as she thanked everyone for their kind support.

She wrote on Facebook: ‘I can’t thank everyone individually for your sweet, kind messages for my beloved husband Colin. Thank you. I’ll let you know when his funeral will be.

‘Colin and I talked about our funerals and what we would like. He said everyone was wearing agadoo shirts or “s*** shirts” as they were called at his funeral, so please, everyone is welcome, but fully fulfill his final dream.

‘Colin didn’t want flowers, he wants donations for his love of cats. So please to a cat charity. Let’s honor his wishes, he gave us so many memories.

‘Thank you from his devastated wife Sue x’.

‘You were so happy and looking forward to our new life, now you are gone. Like we always said, love you always forever.”

Colin revealed to his fans on May 13 that “all good things must come to an end” when he announced his retirement.

He was due to hold one last show in Spain this week, to thank his fans for their support over the many years.

He wrote, “Well, all good things come to an end. I have decided to retire. My last show is Thursday at Villa Adeje Beach Hotel, in San Eugeneo.

“Thank you to all of you who have supported ‘Black Lace’ over the years, and the thousands of friends I have met along the way since we left in 1975.”

While Colin remained with the band for decades, Black Lace has undergone a number of changes in their group over the years.

The group, which consisted of Colin and bandmates Alan Barton, Steve Scholey and Nigel Scott, finished seventh at the Eurovision Song Contest when they represented Great Britain in 1979 with their hit Mary Ann.

Black Lace led the tributes to their ‘great friend’ after wife Sue announced his death and shared a heartfelt message on the band’s official Facebook page.

It read: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our great friend Colin Gibb.

“Colin was a founding member of Black Lace along with Alan Barton and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

‘We would like to send his family and friends all our love and support at this extremely difficult time.’

Fellow Black Lace member Dene Michael also shared a sweet tribute after hearing about the loss of his friend.

He wrote: “So sad to hear of the passing of my singing partner in Black Lace, RIP, my friend Colin Gibb. God bless. We had great times together traveling the world.”

Colin was the longest standing member of Black Lace, famous for their hits Agadoo and Do the Conga.

Agadoo reached number two on the charts in 1984, taking the dubious honor by triumphing in a poll for the respected music magazine Q.

Black Lace enjoyed a string of new hits in the 1980s, but the duo were unable to match the success of the song, which stayed in the UK top 75 for an impressive 30 weeks.

Agadoo, which involved a silly dance, was only kept out of the number one spot by George Michael’s Careless Whisper.

Alan – who died in a bus accident in 1995 – once said about the song: ‘It was a good party song, I’m not going to knock it.’
