Bizarre way Nashville mom tried to kill herself while in jail ‘for drowning daughter, 7, because she was fed up of her’

A Nashville mother accused of drowning her 7-year-old daughter “because she wanted to be left alone” attempted a bizarre suicide in jail.

Brandi Elliott, 33, is being held without bail in the Sumner County Jail awaiting a charge of first-degree murder for allegedly drowning her daughter Piper in Drakes Creek in Hendersonville last month.

But on Sunday she was treated for hitting her head on the wall in her cell, leaving her with two black eyes. News channel Channel 5 reports.

On Monday, she reportedly dove head first off her cage and onto the concrete floor. Elliott was then rushed to a local hospital unable to breathe, but is now in stable condition.

Once she is released from the hospital, Elliott is sent to a state facility better equipped to treat her self-destructive behavior while she awaits a grand jury indictment and trial.

Her defense lawyers are now expected to use her mental health issues to argue that she has diminished mental capacity, in an attempt to avoid criminal liability.

Elliott had already testified during her first court hearing last month that she had mental health problems.

“When my daughter was two, I lost my temper just like this time,” she said in court.

‘I had postpartum depression and they gave me medication for it. I couldn’t sleep very well.’

However, both her lawyer and the prosecutor said at the time that they did not want her to undergo a mental examination.

She has no criminal history and worked at McDonald’s.

But on July 13, Elliott decided to take Piper to a shallow area near Drake’s Creek and held her underwater until bubbles appeared.

She is said to have told the child to be quiet while holding her under water ‘like a big bass’. WKRN defeated.

When police later questioned her about her daughter’s death, Elliott reportedly told officers she was having a bad day and that Piper wouldn’t give her “any time alone.”

Still, the mother said she didn’t realize what she had done until it was too late and emergency workers tried to resuscitate Piper.

Police say family members are now witnesses in the investigation as prosecutors consider sentencing Elliott to death if she is convicted of murder.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe has been set up for Piper’s father, Jon Elliott.

“Jon needs as much donations as possible for the funeral and basic daily needs. He only receives a small disability payment each month,” it says.

Jon, who served in Iraq, also posted a tribute to Piper online: “I will miss my little girl forever.”
