The Women’s Big Bash League was hit by pitch invaders on Wednesday when two masked men disrupted play in Adelaide.

The star forwards were left stunned as two shirtless youngsters entered the field of play at Karen Rolton Oval, with one player rushing out of the way as the pair approached her.

The intruders evaded security and jumped over a fence with wide grins on their faces.

The Strikers’ social media team took the bizarre incident in stride, jokingly tweeting: ‘It’s time we got some streakers’.

Australian sport has been hit by numerous pitch invaders in recent months, with AFL, NRL and rugby matches disrupted by intruders.

Despite the brief stoppage, the Strikers bowlers were outstanding in a six-wicket win over Sydney Thunder, now in fourth place on 13 runs, with stylish Adelaide opening batter Laura Wolvaardt (47 off 45) leading the successful run chase at Karen Rollton Oval.

The Strikers have a bowling attack that is economical and varied and as a collective they found their groove to restrict the Thunder to 6-118.

Zimbabwe international Anesu Mushangwe (2-29) started her stint with a double-wicket maiden.

Veteran fast bowler Megan Schutt (2-25) and skipper Tahliah McGrath (1-12) kept things tight.
