Bizarre detail in Canberra room listed for rent for $425 a week: ‘This is a stitch up’
A rental ad has caused a stir among Aussies after its landlord revealed tenants will be forced to leave their homes this weekend.
The single room for rent in Throsby, in Canberra’s north, costs a tenant $425 a week, despite the room being off-limits two days a week.
The advert states the property is ‘not for couples or families’, but is instead aimed at those traveling to Canberra for work.
The ad was posted online because despite its strange condition, it was advertised for the same amount as other one-bedroom listings.

The advertisement shows a simple single bed set up in the corner of the ‘fully furnished’ bedroom.
A ‘well-equipped’ kitchen is also advertised, despite another image showing a fridge missing.
“This property is ideal for an interstate professional or someone such as a contractor, a graduate professional who is not here on the weekends,” the ad reads.
The $435 price tag also covers all amenities and includes access to parking and laundry.
Social media users found it ‘laughable’ to send a paying tenant away for the weekend.
“This must be a stitch,” someone wrote on Facebook.

“It’s laughable that you expect $425 for this box when the renter can’t even be there on the weekend,” wrote a second.
“People like you give landlords a bad name, yes I understand the market and prices… You’re joking,” a fellow landlord added.
Others urged renters to continue looking for a room to rent, saying there were far, far better options.
