BioWare Reveals Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Skill Tree Progression and Gear Upgrade System

BioWare has shared an in-depth look at Dragon Age: The Veil Guard‘s progression system.

After the latest gameplay demo, which gave us a deeper look at the world we’ll be exploring, The veil keeperBioWare now offers a new, deep dive into the game’s leveling system.

In a new blog post accompanied by a 10-minute video explaining that players can reach a maximum level of 50 in a role-playing game (RPG), which is higher than its predecessor, Dragon Age: Inquisition.

According to BioWare, you get the most experience points by completing missions in this game, and the bigger and more important the mission, the better the bonus.

We also got a look at the Constellation Skill Tree, which features branching skill paths depending on the class and specialization the player chooses, and appears to be more advanced than in the previous game.

There are ‘Class’ slots for core skills and weapon proficiencies, ‘Ability’ which can be assigned to an ability slot on your toolbar, a ‘Major Passive’ or ‘Ability Upgrade’ option to add effects or modify existing abilities, as well as ‘Traits’ to modify existing class skills, and ‘Minor Passive’ or ‘Status Buff’ upgrades to increase the effectiveness of abilities.

“Node selections are designed to harmonize into cohesive builds, ensuring that Rook’s power always grows as his playstyle is refined,” BioWare explained.

In terms of armor, accessories, and weapons, players can discover or purchase gear in many places throughout Thedas, and just like the former Dragon Age In games, each item has its own unique stats.

Players can also find the Caretaker’s Workshop in the Lighthouse, your headquarters, where you can upgrade and enchant equipment and unlock additional effects for Rook and his companions.

Upgraded gear also gains higher stats, and each time Rook upgrades the Caretaker’s Workshop rank, more enchantments become available. However, only one enchantment can be applied to each item at a time.

Although players are initially required to join a certain faction during character creation, this does not mean that their armor type is locked in. Unlike in Inquisition, The veil keeper allows players to transform their gear, giving them the best armor properties but still looking different.

The veil keeperThe seven companions also have their own leveling system. For each level they reach, they gain two skill points.

“Each companion will have quests to deepen Rook’s bond with them, and this is one of the primary ways for them to gain experience,” BioWare said. “Companions can also gain experience through unique conversations and decisions with them. These quests and bonds aren’t limited to romantic interests; platonic friendships are just as important and are a focus in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard.”

Dragon Age: The Veil Guard will be released on October 31 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
