Horror when a dog is abandoned by its owners for a MONTH, leaving only a bucket of biscuits and a bowl of water
- One couple left their staff without food or drink
- In the summer of 2022, they were gone for more than a month
A dog is lucky to be alive after being left alone for over a month with no more than a bucket of biscuits and a bowl of water.
Bindi, the staffer, was left alone in the backyard of his home in Bindoon, a town in Western Australia, between November 9 and December 11.
Neighbors noticed the dog was alone and managed to keep it alive by dropping food and water over the fence.
Bindi, the year-old staff, was left with just one bucket of biscuits and a bowl of water for more than a month during the summer of last year
RSPCA WA rescued her after concerned neighbors reported her owners had been gone for over three weeks and weren’t sure when they’d be back
RSPCA WA was called upon to rescue the one-year-old staff before the 25-year-old and 26-year-old owners returned home.
The husband and wife have now been fined $9,000 and banned from keeping pets after pleading guilty in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Friday.
After finding Bindi alone on Dec. 5, RSPCA WA Inspector Manager Kylie Green said that “she could have died of thirst” while the owners were away.
“Leaving your pet alone for weeks without proper care is just neglect,” she said.
The outcome could easily have turned tragic for Bindi. She could have died of thirst, got sick, or got injured, and her owners would have been none the wiser.
“I am so thankful that kind citizens stepped in and informed RSPCA WA of Bindi’s situation.”
The dog owners pleaded guilty and were convicted of breaching three sections of the Animal Welfare Act 2022.
They were forced to give up Bindi, banned from keeping any other pets for two years, and each ordered to pay $669.60 in court and healthcare costs.
Bindi’s owners were fined $9,000, plus additional fees, and banned from keeping other pets for two years
Bindi was taken to an RSPCA in Malaga where she will be rehomed after staff nurse her back to health.
“Today’s outcome should send a clear message to the public: your pet is your responsibility,” Ms Green said.
‘If you are away for a longer period of time, you must arrange adequate and suitable shelter for them.
“Someone should at least check on your pets daily to make sure they have enough food, water, and companionship.”
