Bindi Irwin reveals surprising origin behind one-year-old daughter Grace Warrior’s name: ‘It dates back to the 18th century’
Bindi Irwin has revealed the surprising origin story behind daughter Grace’s name.
The year-old, whose full name is Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, has inherited a family name that Bindi believes goes all the way back to the 18th century.
“I thought I’d share the story behind our beautiful daughter’s name,” the daughter of conservationist Steve Irwin began in her Instagram post on Tuesday.
“Grace is named after my great-grandmother and relatives from the eighteenth century.”
“Her middle name, Warrior Irwin, is a tribute to my father,” Bindi added.

“Her last name is Powell, just like her incredible Dada and his family.”
She concluded the explanation with, “I think about how much meaning and love went into naming the most important part of our lives, our beautiful Grace.”
Grace is the daughter of Bindi and American-born Chandler Powell, whom she married in 2020.
Grace’s grandfather Steve died in 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a short-tailed ray barb while filming a documentary.
The touching backstory comes after Grace’s uncles Robert Irwin’s girlfriend Rorie Buckey shared private footage of her playing in the front garden with Grace.
Robert and Rorie, both 19, looked like parents-to-be as they pushed a playful Grace on a tree swing near their Queensland home.
In Thursday’s endearing Instagram footage, Grace appeared to squeal with delight as her handsome uncle pushed her onto the forest swing.
“Special times with Grace,” Rorie captioned the post, which was immediately “loved” by more than 3,000 fans.
The sentimental post had followers swooning over the pair, including his sister Bindi Irwin, who said Grace was lucky to have the loved-up duo.

‘I am so grateful that Grace gets to grow up surrounded by so much love. She is very lucky to have you and Robert Irwin in her life,” Bindi wrote tenderly.
Other followers were equally enamored with the pair, calling the couple “cute” and “adorable” under the clip.
“That’s so cute,” one follower wrote. “That’s cute,” another added.
“She’s lucky to have so much love around her,” another wrote.
Robert and Rorie became Instagram official in August, after months of rumors that they were dating.
