Bill Maher claims Joe Biden has only challenged Donald Trump to two debates because he knows he is losing and is desperate to make up ground.
The president threw down the gauntlet to Trump on Wednesday to meet him twice before the election: on June 27 in Atlanta and on September 10.
Trump immediately accepted it with his trademark bluster, declaring he was “ready and willing to debate Crooked Joe,” despite his poor performance in 2020.
Maher claimed on his HBO talk show that Biden only agreed to debate, something Trump urged him to do throughout the campaign, because of his poor polling.

‘To me it means that Biden knows he is losing, because otherwise he would not have agreed. Only the loser wants to debate,” he said.
“I think Biden is the man who has more to prove. Trump is a known commodity. They know he’ll be an asshole.
“He’ll lurk and growl and not follow the rules and everything else. But Biden, they want to see proof of life.”
Maher repeated the conservative line that Biden, as it stands, has no choice to win and that his poll numbers — six months after the election — are uncanny.
“I feel like we’ve turned a corner, though. Just like after the last election, it was ‘Trump is done.’ And a year later he said, ‘Well, he’s not leaving.’
“And then it was, ‘Oh, he could win again.’ And now it seems the consensus is that Biden is almost impossible to win.
“And he’s losing in all the swing states, I think, except Wisconsin, and in increasing numbers.”

Maher then suggested that Democrats would have a better chance of winning if they convinced Biden to withdraw and field a younger candidate.
“Is it too late to turn off?” he said.
“Because in these swing states where Biden loses, it’s interesting. The Democratic Senate candidate doesn’t lose.
“So it just says something, which is that it’s not necessarily the party, it’s the man. They just don’t see him as the man, no matter what he does.
‘He has had many victories. It seems like the needle will never move, but Democrats will have to get off their asses now. Now!’
Senate elections historically do not necessarily follow presidential results and are more easily influenced by local issues and personalities.
Maher has previously discussed the idea of replacing Biden on the ticket, which would happen before or during the Democratic National Convention from August 19 to 22.
