Bill Maher questions why Doug Emhoff isn’t being grilled over his many controversies

Real Time host Bill Maher wondered why Democratic second-in-command Doug Emhoff didn’t get more attention for his past treatment of women.

DailyMail.com reported that Emhoff got the family nanny pregnant while married to his first wife, allegedly hit an ex-girlfriend at the Cannes Film Festival and was “inappropriate” and “misogynistic” at work.

During the previous week Overtime segmentMaher pointed to this reporting and asked his panelists whether the liberal media would continue to ignore it.

“And wouldn’t that make it look worse?” Maher asked.

Maher told his audience details about the 2012 incident at the Cannes Film Festival. ‘He hit her. He thought she was flirting with the clerk,” the longtime HBO host said.

“And he beat up the babysitter, right? That has been confirmed,” said panelist Buck Sexton, a conservative talk show host.

Maher replied in the affirmative.

‘That has been confirmed. He must have beat up the babysitter,” the comedian chuckled.

Shortly after DailyMail.com broke the affair story, a statement was provided to CNN confirming Emhoff’s relationship with the family’s nanny, which resulted in a pregnancy.

‘What I say if this becomes more credible and we don’t know that yet. I mean, a lot of conservative media is still not reporting it, so I wouldn’t go after anyone who hasn’t reported it yet, because these things need to be checked out. But when it becomes more credible, especially at the level of Brett Kavanaugh, that kind of thing was reported by everyone pretty quickly,” Maher said. “Will the liberal media continue to ignore it?”

CNN’s Laura Coates argued that it was appropriate to investigate the claims, but also to “be careful before simply putting something on the air that has these substantiations.”

“Politically, this is a problem for the Harris campaign in large part because it is so ill-defined,” says Tim Alberta of The Atlantic. “Americans are trying to fill the gaps around her, around her family.”

Harris will have run the shortest modern presidential campaign, taking over the top of the Democratic ticket from President Joe Biden on July 21, the day the 81-year-old decided to abandon his re-election bid over age considerations.

Less than two weeks later, news of Emhoff’s affair came out.

‘I think there’s a bit of blood in the water now – the babysitting thing was the first straw and now there’s more and it won’t last long – I can guarantee you there are investigative teams at the Times and the Post and others who investigating this,” Alberta also said.

As of now, the Harris campaign is making heavy use of Emhoff on the campaign trail, with less than three weeks to go before Election Day.

“I think it’s really convenient that allegations require more investigation, require more evidence, when what’s really important as a Democrat is that we don’t all say, ‘Wait a minute, this guy seems like a huge jerk,’” Sexton added. “And he’s being used as a surrogate in the campaign for masculinity…”

Sexton was discussed by Maher, who pointed out that former President Donald Trump has faced similar allegations — of cheating, of physical abuse — and that he is the actual candidate, not the candidate’s wife.

“He’s not going to be president and the guy on the Republican side running for president did these things himself,” Maher said of Emhoff, while also shortening the name of the Republican Party after Sexton called the Democratic Party the “ Democrat’. Party,” which is considered a slur.
