Bill Belichick reveals why the Kansas City Chiefs won’t complete Super Bowl three-peat
As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for their third straight Super Bowl victory this season, Bill Belichick insists the task is tougher than most expect, despite how good the reigning champions are.
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and co. are close to defending their second straight title after winning three in the last five years.
However, Belichick pointed out a potential weakness that could hinder Andy Reid’s men in the playoffs.
“I think the bigger issues are on defense,” Belichick said on the Pat McAfee show. “Look, they played really well in the playoffs, so that’s what it’s all about and that’s the most important thing.
“But overall, I think as a team they want to improve their defense and turnovers.”

“I just think this third year, when everything falls into place three years in a row, it’s going to be tough,” Belichick continued. “If anybody can do it, it’s probably Kansas City, but it’s not going to be easy.”
Before Kansas City won back-to-back titles, Belichick’s Patriots were the last to win back-to-back Super Bowls, in 2003 and 2004. Their bid for a third consecutive Super Bowl was thwarted when they lost to the Denver Broncos in the divisional playoffs the following year.
Aside from their undeniably talented offense, Reid currently has the most regular season and playoff wins of any active NFL coach.
However, Reid trails Belichick in both categories and all-time career wins. Belichick has 302 regular season wins to Reid’s 258 and 31 playoff wins to Reid’s 26.

The Chiefs are 0-2 in the preseason with losses to the Jaguars and Lions
Still, Belichick gave Reid flowers for leading the team to success over the years and he is confident the coach will prepare well.
They will face some tough opponents during the season and [the] “Playoffs,” Belichick said. “But Andy will have them ready to go. I think they’ll score maybe more than they did last year, we’ll see if they can hold up defensively.”
The Chiefs are 0-2 in pre-season play, with losses to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions.
On August 22, they play against the Chicago Bears, after which they open their season on September 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
