Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick doesn’t want his next coaching job to be in a major media market, according to NBC’s Mike Florio.

The 71-year-old – a six-time Super Bowl winner – is currently looking for a new team after leaving the Patriots earlier this month.

After leaving New England, Belichick was interviewed twice by the Atlanta Falcons.

But despite the legendary reputation he has built, Belichick has yet to apply for any of the other open positions in the NFL.

Several head coaching vacancies during this year’s coaching carousel have already been filled, the latest being Jim Harbaugh heading to the Los Angeles Chargers.

But it’s said Belichick only wants a new job if it’s with a team that doesn’t attract massive media attention.

That would obviously rule him out of a number of positions in the competition.

It is said that he wants to coach a team that is covered by a smaller number of reporters, limiting the amount of information leaving the facility.

In addition to Belichick’s hopes of avoiding more media attention, Florio noted two other popular theories floating around NFL circles regarding the lack of interest in the coach’s services.

One of those theories revolved around the possible issue that Belichick didn’t want to have control over the team’s personnel department in a similar way to when he was the head honcho in New England.

The other prevailing theory is the fear that fans — or even executives — might not be receptive to the fact that Belichick’s Patriots team has struggled since Tom Brady’s departure.

Throughout his career with the Patriots and Cleveland Browns, Belichick has proven to be a great defensive coach.

But it’s fair to wonder whether or not Brady elevated him to his legendary status.
