‘Big mouth’ Megan Rapinoe and US women’s soccer team torn apart by Dutch attacker after World Cup trip in stage 16 to Sweden
Dutch attacker Lineth Beerensteyn does not hide her joy that the US has been eliminated from the Women’s World Cup, because she said on Thursday that the Americans had “very big mouths”.
The USA failed to win a Women’s World Cup for a third consecutive time after losing on penalties to Sweden in the round of 16, finishing the tournament with just four goals in as many games.
And Beerensteyn, whose side was beaten by the US in the 2019 final – drawing them 1-1 in the group stage – is not sad to see the Americans leave.
“From the first moment I heard they were out, I was like, ‘Yeah! Bye!’ she told reporters on Thursday. “From the start of the tournament they had very big mouths and were already talking about the final.
“I thought you should show it on the field first before talking (big),” she continued. “I’m not rude in that way, I still have a lot of respect for them, but now that they’re out of the tournament, and for me it’s a relief, and for them it’s something they’re going to have to accept.” with them in the future.

“Don’t start talking about something far away. I hope they learn from that.’
Despite entering the tournament without injured stars Mallory Swanson, Becky Sauerbrunn and Catarina Macario, the USA were betting favorites to claim the ultimate prize in New Zealand and Australia.
And the team made no attempt to hide its ambition.
“We are the most ruthless team, we never give up and we are going to take the title,” said Trinity Rodman in July.
“This team is something special. We want it more than ever, so I expect a gold medal.’

Megan Rapinoe, who announced before the tournament that she would retire at the end of her club season, also publicly hoped for a title.
“I think it’s just a little bit out there and now I can just really enjoy it and focus on winning the tournament,” she said when announcing her decision to retire.
Head coach Vlatko Andonovski also spoke candidly in June.
Would I be happy with anything less than a third win in a row? No!’ Andonovski said at the team’s media day.
“There is only one thing in mind to go to this tournament. Our goal is to win the World Cup.’
In the end, the US fell far behind, bumping into second place in Group E before being ousted by Sweden.
The Netherlands will meet Spain in the quarterfinals on Thursday evening (Friday local time).
