Big change to Arnott’s Tim Tams that will delight Aussie coeliacs

A brand new Tim Tam range is flying off the shelves of supermarkets across Australia.

People with celiac disease can’t get enough of the gluten-free Tim Tams recently launched by iconic biscuit brand Arnott’s.

Among fans flocking to stores is Hannah Fitzy, who woke up early on Thursday to get her hands on them in Newtown, Tasmania, before they sold out again.

Ms Fitzy said she had previously tried to buy the Aussie treats but only found empty shelves before finally managing to get some in Coles.

She filmed herself trying them for the first time and said she was surprised to find she couldn’t tell they were a healthier alternative.

“Run, don’t walk, this is a $5.50 wonder,” she captioned her taste-test vlog.

Hannah Fitzy was shocked to discover that the gluten-free Tim Tams tasted identical to the originals

Ms Fitzy revealed she had celiac disease three years ago and has not been able to eat gluten, barley or other wheat products since.

After checking in at three supermarkets, she finally found the biscuits in Coles and was stunned to discover they tasted identical to the original flavour.

“They taste the same, who cares,” she said.

‘Absolutely gluten-free, double check. What the f***.”

Mrs Fitzy grabbed three packets before opening one in the car to reveal the seven biscuits inside.

She said the new Tim Tams smelled the same, tasted the same and looked the same as Arnott’s originals.

Many people with gluten intolerance were happy to discover that they could finally eat a Tim Tam for the first time in their lives.

‘I’ve been diagnosed since I was four. I’ve never owned a Tim Tam. I’m so excited.’ said a woman.

‘LIFE CHANGES! I’ve never had a Tim Tam in my life,” said a second.

“Literally sold out everywhere I looked,” another added.

Others criticized the price of the pack and the amount of cookies it contained.

“But why do gluten-free things always have less than normal packaging?” one woman asked.

A pack of seven gluten-free Tim Tams sells for $5.50, $1 more expensive than the original version that comes in a pack of 11.

The new Tim Tams are the latest gluten-free version launched by Arnott’s, which previously unveiled similarly healthier versions of Mint Slices, Tiny Teddies, Shortbread Cream and Choc Ripples.

A spokesperson for Arnott told news.com.au that the company was trying to be more inclusive with their products so that more people could try them.

‘Our gluten-free Tim Tam is made on a separate gluten-free line using a combination of high-quality, gluten-free ingredients that are more expensive than the original Tim Tam flavors.’

‘To deliver a high quality, gluten-free biscuit that not only makes no compromise on taste, but also meets the stringent Food Standards Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code requirements around an undetectable gluten claim; our gluten-free Tim Tam is made on a separate gluten-free line using a combination of high-quality, gluten-free ingredients that are more expensive than the original Tim Tam flavors.”

The new Tim Tam range will be expanded nationally to IGAs and independent retailers from November.

The news has prompted fans to call for dairy-free and egg-free alternatives.

“If they make them dairy-free, I’ll finally know happiness,” said one man.
