A man underwent emergency surgery after he was shot in broad daylight on a quiet street in Sydney’s west on Sunday. Three people are said to be on the run.

More than six police cars responded to emergency calls after gunfire was heard at Bidwill, between Penrith and Blacktown in the west of the city, at around 2pm.

A man in his 20s was found at a house in Carlisle Avenue, Bidwill, with gunshot wounds to his back and possibly to his leg.

It is believed he was shot at an underpass behind some shops but managed to walk to the house where he alerted residents.

The man, aged in his 20s, was treated by paramedics in Carlisle Avenue, Bidwill, for a suspected gunshot wound to the leg before being rushed to Westmead Hospital on Sunday.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Westmead Hospital.

“The man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Westmead Hospital with a suspected gunshot wound and is undergoing surgery,” police said in a statement.

It is understood three people are wanted by police in connection with the shooting.

Mount Druitt police have identified several crime scenes in the area that are being forensically examined.

A park and avenue behind the Palms Pacific Supermarket in Bidwill Square were cordoned off.

A nearby block of units was also attacked by uniformed officers and detectives.

The police questioned the residents of the flats and the neighbors.
