Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas claims it’s Texas and NOT the White House that’s ‘failed’ at the border and blames ’30-year broken system’ on historic migrant surge

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Texas is responsible for the southern border crisis because he appointed Governor Greg Abbott for failing to “coordinate” with other governors and state leaders.

The comments come after reports indicate that border patrols in December apprehended and encountered the largest number of migrants ever in DHS history.

But Mayorkas insists President Joe Biden's White House is not to blame, on the same day House Republicans announced impeachment proceedings against the administration official.

Instead, he says the prevailing crisis is Texas Governor Abbott's fault as he continues to ferry migrants from border communities to Democratic cities.

“Let me identify one fundamental problem here – and that is the fact that we have one governor in the state of Texas who refuses to work with other governors and other local officials and coordinate efforts to address a challenge facing us country – what this country is struggling with – is coping with. must stand together to address the issue facing our country,” Mayorkas told MSNBC's Morning Joe panel on Wednesday.

He added, “And it is a notable failure by the administration to refuse to cooperate with fellow local and state officials.”

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Wednesday that Texas Governor Greg Abbott is responsible for the southern border crisis by deflecting blame from the Biden administration, as the head of DHS faces impeachment in the House of Representatives .

This comes as reports indicate December is on track to hit the most migrants in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) history: 304,000

The head of DHS said the administration has sent “teams” to the cities where Abbott is sending the migrants, including Chicago, Denver and New York, in an effort to “help them manage the challenge.”

Since August 2022, more than 85,000 migrants have been sent by Abbott to so-called sanctuary cities — where Democratic leaders are thwarting federal immigration reporting laws and providing safe haven to those in the country illegally.

New York City has borne the brunt of Texas's transfer of the crisis to Democratic enclaves, with Abbott sending 32,200 people to the Big Apple in the past year and a half.

Chicago, Illinois has seen the second largest number of migrants sent from Texas, with 24,500 migrants; Washington, DC has received 12,500; and 11,100 went to Denver, Colorado. In addition, 3,400 people arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and 1,250 in Los Angeles, California.

Although deeply unpopular among Democrats, Abbott's strategy of sending migrants to sanctuary cities is helping to turn the narrative and draw more attention to the crisis.

Texas Governor Abbott has transported more than 85,000 migrants from border communities in his state to Democratic cities such as New York, Denver and Chicago. He also signed a law last month that allows law enforcement in his state to bypass federal channels by arresting, detaining and deporting illegal immigrants.

Mayorkas said Wednesday that Congress is the entity that must directly address the border crisis by once again diverting blame from the Biden administration as he faces impeachment proceedings from Republicans in the House of Representatives.

“We really hope that Congress passes this much-needed funding measure,” Mayorkas told MSNBC, where he assured, “We have taken action at the border and we have taken action on the challenges facing cities across the country.”

He reiterated that “the one thing on immigration that everyone agrees on is the fact that we have had a broken immigration system for decades.”

In a separate interview with CNN on Wednesday morning, Mayorkas touted his role in providing support during Senate negotiations on an immigration overhaul.

“Yesterday, I joined the bipartisan group of senators negotiating a solution to a much-troubled, broken immigration system,” he said. 'I had the great privilege of being able to participate in that.'

He did not say whether he or his office is in direct contact with Republicans in Congress or with House Speaker Mike Johnson in the House of Representatives.
