  • He said he loved it when his grandchildren came to visit
  • “They sneak up on us and jump into our beds,” the president said

President Joe Biden told NBC’s Al Roker that his favorite memories of his time in the White House are of his grandchildren “sneaking up” and jumping into bed with him and first lady Jill Biden.

Roker interviewed the president and first lady Monday morning on the Truman Balcony to kick off the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll.

The longtime NBC weatherman asked Biden about his favorite memory of his more than three years living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

“Our kids jump into bed with us — our grandkids, when they’re down here,” Biden responded. ‘They sneak up to us and jump into bed with us. That’s my favorite memory. They love it. They love to wander the halls. There are two floors upstairs, lots of bedrooms, the private home and they love coming down.”

Of the president’s seven grandchildren, only two are children: Baby Beau, who just celebrated his fourth birthday on March 28, and Navy Joan Roberts, 5, whom the president publicly acknowledged for the first time in July.

His other five grandchildren – Hunter’s other three daughters – and the late Beau Biden’s son and daughter – are all adults, the youngest being 18-year-old little Hunter, who is a senior in high school.

Naomi Biden, 30, Hunter Biden’s eldest daughter and the president’s eldest grandchild, got married at the White House in November 2022.

During the brief interview, the president also shared his favorite moment from the three White House Easter Egg Rolls.

The Easter Egg Roll was canceled during Biden’s first year in office in 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Well, my favorite memories, there was a little girl who had problems with her eggs. She looked at me, she’s about three years old. voice.

Roker, 69, noted how the Easter Egg Roll had its origins in 1878, during the administration of President Rutherford B. Hayes, and joked, “I think I’ve met him.”

“He was a classmate of mine,” the 81-year-old Biden added.

Biden also talked about how special it is to open the White House to the public, noting that 40,000 Americans were invited this year.

“It’s the biggest ever,” he boasted.

“This is their place,” he added. “And it always makes me feel good to look out and see the average American walking around and looking at what’s going on, because they own it, they own it.”

He said the same thing to Roker: “This is your family friend,” with the weatherman saying he would stop by the White House kitchen.

Roker then invited the president and first lady to join him at Ben’s Chili Bowl, a DC restaurant on U Street that serves half smokes topped with chili.

Biden teased that he would come along.

“Like a poor relative, I show up when invited,” the president said.
