Biden surges past Trump in latest poll by Fox News one week out from the first presidential debate

President Joe Biden has jumped two points ahead of Donald Trump in the latest Fox News poll for the first time since October, just a week before the first presidential debate ahead of the US elections later this year.

The Fox News Poll, The report released Wednesday found that 50% of respondents said they would vote for Biden in November, while 48% would vote for Trump.

It’s a one-point improvement for Biden in the poll over last month’s numbers, where Trump had a one-point lead.

Biden received the support of 73% of black voters. The poll also found that almost all partisans remained loyal, as 95% of Democrats have expressed support for Biden, while 95% of Republicans support Trump.

The poll could show the impact of Trump’s recent indictments earlier this month after he was found guilty of all 34 charges in a hush-money trial, making Trump the first US president to be convicted.

He will be sentenced next month.

But other events from the past month could continue to influence voters’ preferences, such as Hunter Biden’s gun trial conviction, a positive U.S. jobs report and Biden’s immigration decision.

When third-party candidates are included in the poll, Biden leads Trump by one point – 43% – 42%, while independents Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West received 10% and 2% respectively.

Green candidate Jill Stein received 2% support. In May, Trump led the field by three points.

Among independent voters, Biden is nine points ahead of Trump.

“The underlying demographic trends that defined the breed persist,” said Daron Shaw, who conducted the study.

“Biden has improved slightly in the areas of women and seniors, helping him stay afloat despite significant reductions from 2020 in support from younger voters and African Americans.”

Americans were also more hopeful about the economy, with nearly 32% of respondents saying they felt “excellent” or “good” about the economy.

The poll also showed Biden with 45% job approval.

Fox News surveys 1,100 registered voters nationwide, with a margin of about 3%.
