Biden rips Trump as he announces he will shield half a MILLION illegal immigrants from deportation

President Joe Biden emphasized Tuesday that he is not “playing politics” with immigration policy, at the same event where he attacked former President Donald Trump for promising to put illegal immigrants in detention camps.

At an East Room event, Biden introduced a new policy that would offer about 500,000 undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens a path to citizenship if they have lived in the country for at least 10 years.

Biden suggested the election action took place this summer to prevent some of the deportations Trump has promised if he were victorious in the fall.

“When he was president, he separated families and children at the border,” Biden recalled. “And now he proposes to rip spouses and children from their families, homes and communities and place them in detention camps.”

The angry Democrat continued, “He’s actually saying these things. It’s hard to believe this is being said. He actually says these things out loud.”

President Joe Biden said he was not “playing politics” with the border, even as he criticized former President Donald Trump for his plans to put illegal immigrants in detention camps if he were to emerge victorious in November.

“It’s outrageous,” Biden said.

“Folks, I’m not interested in playing politics with the border or immigration, I’m interested in solving it,” the Democrat added.

Tuesday’s announcement came after Biden moved earlier this month to close U.S.-Mexico border crossings — preventing most migrants from seeking asylum if they entered the U.S. that way.

That policy was more in line with what Trump pitched.

Trump has since called it “bulls***” as much of the Republican campaign was based on the claim that Biden has done nothing to secure the US-Mexico border.

At the same time, liberal groups were unhappy with Biden’s executive action because it reflected policies endorsed by Trump.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denied that Tuesday’s move to help spouses — which coincided with the 15th anniversary of the DACA program — would counterbalance the controversial asylum plan.

“I wouldn’t look at it that way, really,” she said.

“We’re seeing an immigration policy that hasn’t been updated in a while and the president wants to do something about it,” she continued. “And we can implement the EO and get border security…and also ensure that American families don’t fall apart.”

During the East Room event, Biden emphasized that he could do two things at once: secure the border and provide a path to citizenship for some illegal residents.

“I refuse to believe that to secure our border we have to walk away from America,” Biden said.

“But I also refuse to believe that if we want to remain an America that embraces immigration, we must give up securing our borders,” he continued.

“They are false choices,” the president added. “We can both secure the border and provide legal pathways to citizenship.”
