An amused one Bloomberg reporter aboard Air Force One Thursday, on his way back from Michigan, where he had been with the president, he posted a photo of his less than satisfying dinner that was meant to be a local delicacy.
White House reporter Josh Wingrove posted a photo that has been viewed at least 80,000 times to X of the “Detroit style pizza” served on the president’s plane Thursday night.
“Air Force One dinner tonight after the trip to Michigan: Detroit-style pizza,” he wrote above a photo of a sad-looking presentation of the dish.
Detroit-style pizza is a rectangular pan pizza characterized by a thick, often crispy and chewy crust.
The pizza pictured aboard Air Force One may have left the pan in the oven a little too long, judging by the intensely blackened edges of the pictured pieces.

The square pieces also seemed to be almost caked with sesame seeds – not a classic topping for a slice of Detroit style – as well as charred tomato sauce and spices.
The dinner also turned out to include an Italian-style salad.
Comments on Wingrove’s photo were unsympathetic to the chef, who branded the effort “disgraceful” and said the pizza “looks like it’s been to hell and back.”
One user, whose handle is @umich voter joked, “Mother Joe Biden is trying to lose Michigan on purpose.”
Michigan is part of the “Blue Wall” that helped Joe Biden win the 2020 election. Former President Donald Trump carried the Great Lakes State in 2016.
Recently, Donald Trump – the presumptive Republican nominee for president – led Biden in four consecutive polls in the state.
On Thursday, Biden visited Michigan to receive formal endorsement from the United Auto-Workers union.
However, in addition to the support from the unions, Biden also faced pro-Palestinian demonstrators who shouted: ‘You don’t see Biden, you are busy with killings.’
The group set up across from the Warren sports bar that had been selected as the location where the president would meet with UAW union members.
The trip has angered Arab and Muslim leaders in Michigan, who accused him of shunning them and keeping details secret so as not to spark protests.

Michigan is a key battleground and a poor performance by Biden in the state could have a major impact on the final result in November.
Khalid Turaani, whose group ‘Abandon Biden Campaign’ is demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, complained that he was kept in the dark about the location of Biden’s events.
“I believe Biden has failed his voters on such a monumental scale that he is afraid to meet them in a public forum,” he told the Detroit News. Either way, the optics are embarrassing for him.”
“Why not have a meaningful conversation about how to change course with a community that knows firsthand what it’s like to live in the countries where your decision-making takes place?” said Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud.
Dearborn is home to one of the country’s largest Arab-American communities, amid the prospect that Biden’s support for Israel with its war against Hamas in Gaza could cost him political support in the state.

The details of the locations Biden planned to visit during the trip were kept secret, prompting questions from White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about whether the secrecy was part of a plan to avoid protesters .
Asked whether Biden would meet Arab-American or Muslim leaders during the visit, Jean-Pierre said: “The president has met with Americans with diverse views on the conflict between Israel and Hamas” and said White House officials were “in regular contact with Islamic leaders’. and Arab-American leaders in Michigan across the country.”
She said administration officials will travel to Michigan in February to “hear directly from community leaders on a range of issues important to them and their families, including the Israel-Gaza conflict.”
