Biden claims he has been completely exonerated in classified documents probe: Joe ignores DOJ saying he’s elderly and has a poor memory to celebrate NOT being criminally charged

President Joe Biden is making the most of a key part of a damning special counsel report on his mishandling of classified documents — saying he was “pleased” no charges were filed after an “exhaustive investigation.”

Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report gives Biden the result he sought — even while making arguments that are political landmines. The report even says Biden comes across to a jury as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, older man with a bad memory,” the kind of faint praise that could be devastating in a campaign ad.

Hur said multiple times that Biden forgot important details in his own life and political biography as part of his potential defense, and even said it was possible a jury would find that Biden had not deliberately mishandled information since he kept classified documents together with kept a broken lamp. and other household “waste” in his garage in Wilmington.

“I was pleased to see that they reached the conclusion that I believed and knew all along they would reach — that no charges have been filed in this case,” said Biden, who declared victory in a speech to the Democrats in the House of Representatives just minutes after the report was made public.

President Joe Biden defended the report in a statement and in remarks to House Democrats shortly after Special Counsel Robert Hur announced he would not be charged.

“As many of you know, this was an extensive investigation that literally goes back over forty years — forty years, when I became a United States senator as a child,” Biden said, referring to his election at age 29.

“I have cooperated fully, put up no roadblocks and sought no delay.”

“In fact, I was so determined to get the special counsel what they needed that I did five hours of in-person interviews over two days of October 8 and 9 last year, even though Israel had just been attacked by Hamas in October. 7th.’

‘I was in the middle of tackling an international crisis. But I was especially pleased to see the special counsel make clear the stark differences between this case and Donald Trump. As the special counsel wrote, and I quote: “There are clear material differences between Mr. Trump’s case and Mr. Biden’s — this is a Republican counsel, by the way.

Biden continued reading: “He returned classified documents and avoided prosecution. Mr. Trump is said to have done the opposite. … According to the indictment, he has not only refused to return documents for months. He also obstructed justice by employing others to destroy evidence and then lie about it.”

It said Biden submitted documents to the archives, consented to searches, attended a voluntary interview and “otherwise cooperated with the investigation.”

Biden said in a written statement: “I simply believed that I owed it to the American people so that they could know that no charges would be filed and the case would be closed,” Biden continued.

Biden said he has “always worked to protect America’s security. I take these issues seriously and no one has ever questioned that.”

The White House, which decided not to include redactions in the report or otherwise invoke privilege, also issued a statement Special Advisor to President Richard Sauber

He cited Biden’s “extraordinary cooperation.” Although he did not mention Donald Trump, the former president has been charged for his own mishandling of national security documents after he was accused of conspiring to withhold them after they were discovered.

“As the special counsel’s report acknowledges, the President has fully cooperated from day one. His team promptly self-reported the classified documents found to ensure that these documents were immediately returned to the government, because the president knows they belong there. Not only was there no obstruction whatsoever, but the president’s cooperation throughout this 15-month investigation was extraordinary,” he said.

“As the Special Counsel’s report recognizes, errors in packaging documents at the end of an administration or when members of Congress leave office are unfortunately a common occurrence. It has happened in every administration, Republican and Democrat, over the past fifty years. “Now that this investigation has concluded, President Biden plans to take new, substantive action to help prevent such mistakes in the future and will announce it soon,” Sauber said.

He did not adopt Hur’s specific language, but did not say that “we disagree with a number of inaccurate and inappropriate comments in the Special Counsel’s report.” Nevertheless, the most important decision made by the Special Counsel – that no charges are warranted – is firmly based on the facts and evidence.”

It didn’t take long for Trump’s forces to capitalize on the findings.

If you’re too senile to stand trial, then you’re too senile to be president. Joe Biden is unfit to lead this nation,” said Alex Pfeiffer, communications director for Make America Great Again Inc.

The report repeatedly references Biden’s memory, and comes during a week in which he mixed up the names of world leaders several times.

“During his interview with our office, Mr. Biden’s memory was worse. He could not remember when he was vice president, and on the first day of the interview forgot when his term ended (“if it was 2013, when did I stop being vice president?”), and forgot on the second day of the interview when his term began (“am I still vice president in 2009?”), the report said.

‘He didn’t even remember within a few years that his son Beau died. And his memory seemed hazy as he described the Afghanistan debate that was once so important to him.”

The report also included embarrassing details, even as they reported that they could show that Biden had forgotten the documents sent to the junk pile.

“We also expect that many jurors will be struck by where the Afghan documents were ultimately found in Mr. Biden’s Delaware home: in a badly damaged box in the garage, near a collapsed dog crate, a dog bed, a Zappos box, one an empty bucket, a broken lamp wrapped in duct tape, potting soil and synthetic firewood,” it said.

Biden’s official response, included in the back of the Hur report, criticizes the inclusion of “highly biased” language about his memory, and questions why other witnesses were given a clearance for “vague” memory errors. It says it relies on “highly biased language” to describe memory loss which is “a common occurrence.”
