Biden bolsters campaign with two top White House aides as focus turns to the general election

WASHINGTON — WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is sending two of his top White House advisers to bolster his reelection campaign in Wilmington as his focus shifts to the November general election, according to the campaign.
The moves by his deputy chief of staff Jen O’Malley Dillon, his 2020 campaign manager and campaign senior adviser Mike Donilon were expected and campaign aides insisted they were not signs of a broader shake-up. Although some prominent Democrats had expressed concerns about Biden’s operation in Delaware, campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez will retain her role. The announcement comes on the same day as the New Hampshire primary, where former President Donald Trump is looking to make his way to the Republican nomination.
“Mike and Jen were essential members of the senior team that helped President Biden and Vice President Harris earn the most votes in American history in 2020, and we are pleased that their leadership and strategic prowess will be focused full-time on returning them to the White House for another four years,” Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement.
An aide said the staff shifts will allow aides, who have been critical to managing Biden’s political activities and messaging within the White House, to take on more overtly political roles in the campaign ahead of an expected campaign against Trump. The campaign stated that Donilon would focus on advertising and strategy, while O’Malley Dillon would work on organization and election mechanics.
O’Malley Dillon’s move was first reported by The New York Times.
