BGT fans accuse ITV show of being a ‘fix’ after a mother surrendered her audition for her daughter

Britain’s Got Talent viewers accuse the ITV show of being a ‘fix’ after a mother gave up her own audition to give her daughter a chance

Viewers of Britain’s Got Talent were less than impressed when they accused the ITV show of being a ‘fix’ after a mother gave up her own audition to give her daughter a chance.

Claire Connelly took the stage to audition on Saturday’s show, who decided to give up her spot to allow her daughter Tia, 15, to take her place.

Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were shocked by the kind gesture as they welcomed Tia onstage as the audience erupted in cheers.

A nervous Claire explained, “I brought my 15-year-old daughter today, she thinks it’s me auditioning.”

Speaking to judges Simon Cowell, Amanda, Alesha and Bruno Tonioli, Claire said she gave up on her audition because Tia has “been through very hard times” and deserves a chance.

She said she [her daughter] thinks it’s me auditioning. She got me through some tough times in my life and I feel like I owe her something so I’m giving up my audition for my daughter.

“This is my way of saying she’s fantastic because she deserves it and she’s an incredible person.”

The schoolgirl took the stage to perform Whitney Houston’s I Didn’t Know My Own Strength, leaving audiences and judges in awe.

Alesha told her, “Your mom said you had a great voice…and I agree!”

Amanda Holden added, “You absolutely smashed it. I think you have a huge career ahead of you. Well done.’

Bruno told her she had an “incredible quality because you were singing from your soul.”

Simon adds: ‘Tia, that’s how you do it. I really like moments like this. I absolutely love this audition.’

She received four yeses from the judges after her emotional song and advanced to the next round.

But some viewers believed ITV set up the mother-daughter sacrifice and called it a big ‘fix’ on Twitter.

One of them said: ‘Giving her audition to her daughter seems like a solution. Let’s hope she’s okay…”

A second wrote, “Tia could have just come to perform and would have easily come through her talent alone, but the show likes to weave a story around the acts. It’s always been the same.’

“They don’t have to lie and give my audition to my daughter. Transparency is important. It’s #BGT that people have a problem with. It basically uses Tia and her mom as pawns,” a third wrote.

However, some fans disagreed and praised Tia for her performance saying she was “older than her years” and loved watching her “confidence” grow.

One person shared, “I loved how she was all nervous at first, but when she realized that all the spectators and judges love her singing, her confidence suddenly grew.”

Another added, “Wow, her voice is more mature than her years. Fab,” while someone else wrote, “That’s a voice for a 15-year-old added another.”

“Tia’s audition is amazing and proof that mother-daughter love is the best in the world!” placed a fourth person.

Another fan commented, “It’s a Saturday night and I’m lying in bed crying over this BGT audition.”
