‘We may not have had the wedding we hoped for, but somehow I still got emotional’;

‘That was a disappointing end to series 2. Nothing has progressed since the very first episode;’

‘Pretty unlikely scenario for a wedding/no wedding…#beyondparadise.’

Following the finale, BBC announced that Beyond Paradise will return for a third series and a Christmas special.

Spin-off show Death In Paradise hit screens last year and saw Kris Marshall reprise his role as a detective inspector as he tried to adjust to life with his fiancée – played by Not Going Out’s Sally Bretton – on the coast of Devonshire.

During the series finale, the couple’s foster journey came to an end and they welcomed Ryan into their home.

Elsewhere, the professional relationship of PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) and CS Charlie Woods (Jade Harrison) took an unexpected turn and DS Esther Williams (Zara Ahmadi) took on a case in which the Shipton Abbott Museum was robbed of a valuable asset.

In the series, Shipton Abbott’s police team has dealt with a death during a murder mystery play, a local fishing legend missing at sea and a medium predicting an arson.

Tim Key, executive producer of Red Planet Pictures, said: “The response to series two has been fantastic.

“So much love goes into making the show and we’re glad the audience enjoyed it so much.

‘We can’t wait to return to Shipton Abbott for another Christmas special and series to continue the story and learn more about our characters and the town they live in.

“I can promise that we will make viewers laugh, cry, laugh some more and then baffle them with a series of ingenious puzzles.

“There’s a duck coming too.”

Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, said: ‘Beyond Paradise has become such a big hit with millions of viewers in the UK.

‘It’s a show that’s absolutely going strong, and we’re thrilled to be bringing even more devilishly clever mysteries from the Shipton Abbott team to the BBC.’

It comes after Kris Marshall appeared to rule out any crossover with Death In Paradise ahead of a new season of Beyond Paradise.

The first season finale of Beyond Paradise featured some elements of a crossover between the two BBC dramas.

Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman – played by Kris – returned to the island of Saint Marie and was even reunited with his old friend Harry the lizard.

However, there are no signs of any more tie-ins between the two series happening in the future, after Kris seemingly dismissed any possibility of this happening in season two.

Death in Paradise bosses Tony Jordan and Tim Key said in February 2023 that the difference between the two shows is that in the first episode of the spin-off, Humphrey has to solve a mystery that is not a murder.

Additionally, Beyond Paradise is set in the Devonshire town of Shipton Abbott, while the first is set on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie.

The drama series will be available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer when it returns.
