Beyonce said “drop the new music” during the Super Bowl, and then did just that
Update: Beyoncé revealed on her Instagram what the teaser was for: the highly anticipated Renaissance Act 2 now has a release date.
Usher may have taken the stage at the halftime show of the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, but it’s Beyoncé who has everyone thrilled.
The pop star teamed up with Verizon early in the second half for a commercial in which the wireless company, represented here by the always hilarious Tony Hale, challenged her to destroy the Internet – as a testament to the reliability of Verizon’s network, of course.
To do this, Beyoncé faces a montage of publicity stunts, including announcing her bid for BOTUS (United States’ Beyoncé), and heading for the stars to become the first pop starter to perform in space. But none of these can crash Verizon’s service.
As a final incentive, Beyoncé says, “Okay, they’re done. Drop the new music.” Which of course made fans and the entire internet wonder… did Beyoncé actually just surprise by releasing new music via a Verizon ad?
Adding to the speculation that something new is on the way are the swirling rumors over the past few weeks Beyoncé gets a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere — and what better way to tease that than with a new song launching during the Las Vegas Super Bowl?
It turns out the reveal wasn’t an immediate new release, but rather a release date for her highly anticipated Renaissance Act 2: March 29. The announcement included a full trailer for the new music.
