Beyoncé is challenging a $2.7 million tax bill, claiming the IRS made a mistake on charitable donations

Pop sensation Beyoncé is suing the Internal Revenue Service in US tax court seeking to reassess her $2.7 million tax liability for the years 2018 and 2019.

The Notice of Deficiency claims the singer, 41, owed an additional $805,850 in taxes for the year 2018 and $1,442,747 for 2019, plus combined fines of $449,719.40.

Beyoncé’s April 17 litigation alleges that the IRS was mistaken by disallowing millions of dollars in deductions, including more than $850,000 in charitable contributions in 2018.

With a net worth of around half a billion dollars, Beyoncé is one of the most successful artists of all time. Her husband Jay Z, who also has interests in a number of successful business ventures, is also worth an estimated $2.5 billion.

The petition to reassess the singer’s tax liability came about through the Notice of Deficiency.

U.S. taxpayers have 90 days from the date of the notice to file a petition to contest the original assessment.

According to Forbesa case will be tried as soon as possible – although most agree without going to court.

In addition to the $868,766 attributable to a 2018 charitable contribution, the singer disputes the fines imposed because she “acted reasonably and in good faith.”

The penalties are set at 20% of the amount of underpaid tax and interest is reportedly due on the amounts currently due.

The petition lists Beyoncé as the sole taxpayer, without husband Sean Carter, better known as singer Jay Z.

Among other things, Beyoncé is behind the public charity foundation BeyGOOD.

The charity provides educational grants, advocates for internships, and gives people better access to resources to build small businesses in the US and abroad.

In addition to helping students whose families cannot afford tuition, it helps current students prepare for permanent employment.

Beyoncé was also a co-founder Call for change in 2013 with Salma Hayek, launched by Gucci, which has raised around $19 million to support projects that strive for gender equality worldwide.

Her partner founded the Shawn Carter Foundation in 2003 to provide scholarships for underprivileged youth.

After Hurricane Katrina, he pledged $1 million to the American Red Cross relief effort.

In 2006 he visited Africa and produced a documentary about the world water crisis.
