Beyoncé is accused of copying Kylie Minogue’s revealing robotic look from 2002 after video from her Renaissance tour is shared on social media

Beyoncé is accused of copying one of Kylie Minogue’s most iconic looks.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Break My Soul singer, 42, is shown rising from the stage during her Renaissance tour, clad in robotic armour.

Incrementally, the metal pieces swing away from her thighs, breasts, and head, as she emerges and grabs a microphone to begin a song.

And Kylie fans were quick to point out the similarities between the staging, the costumes and concept of this particular segment and the Australian pop star’s aesthetic.

One account made a sarcastic comment about Beyoncé’s impersonation.

“Now we love Beyoncé, and we KNOW the robot refers to the movie Metropolis,” another X user began, referencing Fritz Lang’s classic 1927 sci-fi film, before unleashing on the single Ladies hitmaker

“It’s so nice to see Beyoncé doing a Kylie Minogue tribute tour,” they said.

Others were more angry that Kylie didn’t get enough credit for the iconic idea.

“Now we love Beyoncé, and we KNOW the robot refers to the movie Metropolis,” another X-user began, referencing Fritz Lang’s classic 1927 sci-fi film before releasing the single Ladies hitmaker.

“But the robot that opens like this IS a Kylie Minogue reference and I’m tired of everyone not handing her flowers like she’s the blueprint.”

“Aren’t all the celebrities watching Metropolis again?” one user wondered, referring to the common trend of movies, television, and pop culture, using the iconography of the “Machine Person” character in the old sci-fi movie.

“He’s not talking about the reference, but how Beyoncé’s robot suit is constructed in exactly the same structure and function as Kylie’s in 2002,” another user explained.

But Beyoncé fans clapped back, with one saying, “This tour is about Renaissance and refers to herself,” referring to other times in the singer’s career when she dabbled in sci-fi aesthetics.

Another fan of both singers chimed in, “Okay, you had me with deserving flowers, because Bey was obviously inspired in a way, but the whole blueprint thing? Now I strongly disagree. But I do love Kylie.”

For her current tour, Beyoncé plays the songs from her studio album Renaissance (2022), in order and interspersed with songs from her entire catalog.

As for the visuals, the stage consists of a giant screen with a large ‘portal’ in the middle, with sculptures, robotic arms and ultraviolet technology.

And then there’s Beyoncé herself, who sings and dances while decked out in an array of eye-catching ensembles as she delivers the hits.

Three and a half months into her Renaissance Tour, Beyonce is expected to continue touring the US until the finals show at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Oct. 1.

While nothing has been officially announced yet, Beyonce is rumored to be bringing her tour Down Under at the end of this year.
